The Beginnings

The beginnings of Living Light Christian Church go back to the 1970s, when individuals in a traditional denominational church in Kenosha, USA began to experience the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit and an accompanying fresh understanding of the reality of God, which was known internationally as the ‘Charismatic Renewal’.

These beginnings developed into a prayer group and then into a congregation with its own leadership. While reaching out for relationships with other like-minded Christians in the area, they were particularly struck by the strategy of God for His church as expressed in the book of Ephesians:

"[Christ] gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-13)

By 1993, Living Light in Kenosha had grown to approximately 120 adults and children, and continued to grow steadily in numbers and in understanding of God’s purpose for His church. As part of a commitment to see people equipped to fulfil that purpose, Living Light began to run full-time training programs, starting with Evangelism Teams (2000-2003) and the School of Worship, which began in 2001 and continues today.
